The kings portrait !
Firstly, a very big thanks for some of the emails i had regarding my daughter. She is out of hospital at last and is recovering slowly after the intense infection to her throat, neck and head. I will reply to any mail i recieved in the last week, please bear with me as it may take a few days to get back up to speed.
This one was taken in longleat wildlife park and has had a fair amount of editing done to it, thankfully recording and using actions in photoshop enabled me to do this in about 5 minutes. Thanks again to those that sent their best wishes via comments and email, it was very appreciated. Hope you like this one guys..... Edited in a slightly different way after buying a book called - The creative digital darkroom by katrin eismann and sean duggan. A percentage covers basic stuff but some of the techniques that katrin covers gives a good insight to the way she works ( Katrin is a well respected proffesional and lectures photoshop http://www.creativedigitaldarkroom.com/).

WOW is all i can say
glad to hear your daughter is recovering
ric: Cheers martin, I am happy now ! It means everything to me. I have inspiration again but also, now look at things differently after learning we could have faced the unthinkable ( im not even going to start typing that bit, you know what i mean).
What a magnificent beast. Sounds like the book was a great buy!
ric: Thanks larry, it certainly was. I have adapted my workflow around some of the techniques and recommend it to anyone. My photos are still dark based, but not as dark if you know what i mean. Whether they will be popular, only time will tell.
There is something almost human about this portrait. I suppose if people can sometimes be described as leonine, then it might work the other way round, but I don't know a word for it! Anyway, he looks like a thoughful old lion, but I suppose that wou;ldn't stop him from bighting my head off.
ric: Great comment thank you Ian. I agree. I have started looking at newer photos and am now able to see not what is in the viewfinder, but what i see after ive chucked it into photoshop, so what i produce, is what i am seeing when i take the shot. I think it means i am learning to replicate what my soul see's, not my brain ! If you get what i mean.
Very elegant shot Ric and good news on your daughter
ric: Thank you Tracey, great news indeed. I can now carry on my planning of reenactments i plan to cover this year.
Great Portrait.
ric: Thank you Chichi.
wow, should be hung from many a wall
ric: Thats a bit of a compliment Tim, thank you. It is one of my favorites i think.
Good one Ric.
ric: Thank you mick.
Damn. What a wonderful portrait. He looks like a wise old man who has seen a lot.
ric: Thanks VZ, a big compliment which i really appreciate.
GREAT news about your daughter, Ric.
This is Aslan personified. I think He was watching over your little girl!
ric: Thank you Ginnie, it is great news indeed. You know, i thin you may have some truth in that statement, Some believe in animal spirits as guardians dont they ? Anyway, thank you again for kind comments.
i think they've said it all
the animal almost looks human here well done and glad to hear about your daughter
ric: Thank you for the kind comments, regards.
Mmm.. lovely! A majestic animal fabulously lit!
Sorry to hear about your daughter, but glad to hear she's out of the woods now.
ric: Cheers alan for both comments.
First and foremost, I hope you daughter is well soon,
I am not a pro photographer. more a beginner really but this is for me the best shot I have seen on the site. I do love lions but this is very very good, something I would have on a wall at home. well done indeed. I hope one day I can do this. You have shown me just how far I have to go and I am loving every minute of the jorney. Thanks for giving us this super shot.
ric: Well, thats a bit of a compliment i think. not sure i agree about it being the best photo on the site though, but we all have different opinions, all valid to the seer. Ive made this photo by experimenting on a style of image i like, which as you may guess from my collection, is dark themed, one or two maybe a bit dark but i wont pull them off the site again unless i make a re-edit first and ask for comparisons. the secret above all is - to be happy with what you are making. If you think it is good, them thats really all that matters. Dont get sucked into making photos jsut to get others to comment. you will lose your way by doing this, i should know ! Playing with layers and blending modes is where the arty stuff comes from, and forget about buying mags on photoshop, get yourself a few books, learn from them and experiment, thats the best way to progress. If you want any info just email me and withthe knowledge i have, i am only too happy to help if possible.
Fabulous shot, a likey to me, you know I love pictures like this, yes Ric animal spirits are guardian angels, like this lion, he will make sure no one will hurt your daughter, I am so happy that she is at home in your care, no place better to be than HOME.
ric: Thank you again, its appreciated, seems by not darkening as much as i have previously, more people like it. Must make a mental note not to get carried away with the darkening
This is an awsome picture. Well done indeed!
ric: Cheers ST.
Great Lion! Very nice portrait and testures incredibles! Love this!
ric: My thanks to you Jose.
Great potrait, well done
ric: Thank you !
Indeed! A King's portrait. Very Royal!!
Likey!
ric: Many thanks frank.
I do like the isolation and imposing sensation it creates. Wonderful
ric: thank you for your comment, im pleased you liked it.
Really nice shot Alex. I wonder why you have chosen to keep the negative space on the right. I would have preferred to have the lion cropped tighter.
Nice shot again.
ric: Ah, you noticed the space, this is how it should be. The lion is looking into the photo, so technically it is following the rules of photography i think. To crop tight makes him look outside, and some will wonder what is interesting beyond the border. It is one of the rules i do not throw out because it give me more critiques asking why i cropped, Im glad you liked it.
Nice to hear Rachael is doing fine,
Stunning shot
ric: Thanks for both comments, you are very kind, regards.
Absolutely beautiful image and what good news about your daughter.
ric: thank you very much, it is highly appreciated.
I hope your daughter continues to recover. Your animal pics are outstanding, I love the darkness to them, photographically that is
Ric this is magnificent, truely a great edit, It really does show the majesty of these animals. I am gonna have to quiz you on this technique
